What is Kiteboarding?

There is a sport that is like surfing, wakeboarding, and flying all at once.  If you’ve ever been to Pismo Beach on a windy day, you will see over two dozen kiteboarders in the water or doing tricks high above it.  Most of these riders are ordinary people that are simply addicted to this amazing extreme sport called kiteboarding.

Kiteboarding uses the wind to combine the aspects of surfing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and windsurfing into one extreme ocean sport.  The kite, anywhere from 6-20 square meters, powers the rider through the water.  The kite will have either 4 or 5 lines up to 27 meters long that connect to a control bar, which the rider pushes and pulls to control the kite in any direction.  The bar hooks into the rider’s harness, which is most often worn around the waist. A board similar to a wakeboard or surfboard enables the rider to fly over the water. Check out our kites, boards, and harnesses here

We carry Naish, DaKine, Slingshot, Neil Pryde, Caution, NPX, Starboard, Creatures of Leasure, Ocean and Earth, Werner, Garmin, AzHiAzIaM, MBS, and much more.

Airush introduces the Widebody concept with the Sector LW. At nearly 4 inches (10cm) wider than other production kiteboard, the light-wind advantages of the Sector are clear. Innovations in the fin configuration and hull design create an easy to use, yet high performance freerace board, that simply outperform traditional light-wind boards through significant steps forward in upwind recreational performance.

The obvious increase in width enables the Sector to get going earlier, and continue planning in absolutely minimal wind conditions. Developed to be used in conjunction with kites such as the Airush Lithium LW (Light Wind) 13 & 15m, the combined innovation enables you to ride the relatively smaller sizes than traditional light wind kites from around the 7 knot threshold.

• RAILS

Hard edges in the tail for perfect water release and early planning. Tucked edges in the front section

for control at speed.

• ROCKER

Flat rocker in the tail section for early planning. High nose kick for control off the wind.

• BOTTOM SHAPE

Single concave nose for early planning, with V tail section for control and a smooth ride in chop.

• OUTLINE

Wide tail for early planning and edging upwind. Wide point relatively far forward for control at high

speed.

• CONSTRUCTION

The Flytech construction is most suitable for high volume kiteboards due to its low density and therefore core weight. The lightweight core is combined with unidirectional and standard glass and a full wood sandwich. High impact heel areas feature a double sandwich construction.
